Co-Author Verification

I'd like to see co-author verification functionality added in a future S1M release.   Listed co-authors would be automatically sent an email upon manuscript submission to say "you have been named as a co-author on a manuscript entitled "Manuscript", submitted today to Journal X.  Please click the appropriate link below to indicate that you have contributed to this research, and that the submitting author, Amy Author, obtained your consent to be submit this paper to Journal X." There would then be two hyperlink options to confirm consent/contribution or else to register their objection if consent was not obtained, or they've been named as an author on a paper they had no part in (more common than it should be).  The author names could show up in italics until consent was confirmed, then regular text for confirmed authors with old red for any objections, and further email alerts to the admin/editor triggered so they know to take action.  This would really help admins to spot when authors have supplied incorrect or falsified email addresses, as we require each named author to have a live, valid email address. This functionality should be configurable, so journals that have no interest could just ignore it, but journals that need it could have it turned on.

Please can the "completed" status of this be removed? it's not yet possible to do what the original proposer asked.

I agree with Nicola here—the existing functionality does not address the issue fully (I think even halfway is a bit too optimistic!). And very good point about being able to collect/require co-author ORCIDs.

Hi Sven, the existing functionality does not accomplish this use case - it gets halfway there.  Currently, you can inform authors that they are co-authors by emailing them at submission, but you cannot currently require them to actively confirm their authorship (a feature that is available in alternative products).  As an aside,  believe this desired functionality is a first step that would be required to allow us to mandate ORCID for co-authors - while we're asking them to confirm authorship we can require them to provide their validated ORCID.  Currently, there is no way to require co-authors to log-in to ScholarOne to do this.

As the above comments indicate, there is a way to accomplish this use case using existing functionality in the system.

    Warmest Regards,

    Sven

We do that as well.  And monitor the bouncebacks.

One way I have addressed this issue is that all authors are listed to receive an email indicating that they have been listed as an author/co-author on the submission when a manuscript is submission (original).
