Adding automatic reminder to author about unsubmitted manuscript

Currently, authors receive one e-mail indicating that their paper was unsubmitted and awaiting their action. We would like to have the option to add automated reminders about this ?pending? task. Unsubmitting should be treated as a TASK in S1 so that reminders can be created in the ?Email Notifications and Reminders? section of email templates, with the option to adjust the ?when task enters? and ?reminder days? settings. Frequently, correspondence about unsubmitting gets lost, either because of overcrowded inboxes or vacation or user error. The only way for the author to check in on their paper is to log in to ScholarOne or e-mail the Ed Office. When authors discover that the paper was ?unsubmitted? months ago, they get upset that they were never reminded. Adding automatic reminders would also encourage authors to delete old drafts, so as to avoid reminders about a draft they don?t intend to submit.

We agree. This needs to be a task so reminders can be set up for it. Especially since authors don't always check a paper right away once they've submitted.

We had the same idea over here! We want this to safeguard against authors not realising that they have not formally completed the submission process, and their manuscript getting stuck in 'limbo’ for months. It is not a usual occurrence, but has happened once.
