Editorial Office to approve long task extensions

Would it be possible to add an option for Editorial Office to approve long task extension, could a limit be set (e.g. 30 days) so that when this is exceeded, the request has to be approved first by Editorial Office. (e.g. where an author asks for 6 month extension)
